Papagayo's Mexican Restaurant & Cantina

Decent food with great portions.

When visiting Lake Arrowhead, a member of the group I was with, suggested Papagayo's Mexican Restaurant & Catina. There was a lakeside patio, but it seems most of the business occurred inside the restaurant. The decor is very much like Island's burger chain.

I got the Chile Colorado plate, which was a heaping amount rice, beans and meat. It is very filling. The portions are quite big. The burritos are probably a little bigger, and longer than Chipotle's burritos. The meat isn't like the one's you would find on the streets of LA, but it still was decent.

It's not the most authentic Mexican food, but the restaurant is located in Lake Arrowhead, (very close by Big Bear). For where it is, it is a decent spot to go to if you are very hungry.

Max Brenner

Chocolate OVer load!!!!

This place has chocolate pizzas (a bit pricey at $7) and  Syringes (no needles, also a bit pricey at $7) filled with chocolate! Max Brenner has by far some of the best quality chocolate that I have ever tasted. None of the sometimes tasteless candy bar chocolate you would find in the supermarket, Max Brenner chocolate is very creamy and smooth.

Things to try:

$7 Chocolate Pizza- A "pizza" with chocolate as sauce and white chocolate sprinkled all over

$7 Chocolate Syringe- A plastic "syringe", more like a mini squirt gun you can squirt chocolate into your mouth.

Hash House A Go Go

Does it live up to the hype?

Hash House A Go Go ( probably the only reason you would go inside Imperial Palace) in a certain way does live up to the hype.

Expect a hour wait when you get there. The portions are HUGE, and even though it is pricey, you would pay the same amount for a buffet, for roughly the same amount of food that an average person could eat.

Biggest Recommendation for First timers:
Get: the ANDY'S Sage Fried Chicken ( This is Benedict with the light orange sauce on top of it)...there are so many flavors thrown, the sweet of the biscuits, to the salty of the friend chicken and bacon, to the savory of the sauce on top, with the cheese and tomatoes make for a great meal.

Do Not Get: regular Sage Fried Chicken (Waffles on  top of fried chicken)...yes it might taste god, but this was somewhat of a let down...This to me was too regular.

Hash House a Go Go is twisted farm food. It is great comfort food, but be reasonable with your expectations. I certainly was!

El Patron Catering Food

It might not be as fancy as the other food trucks...but its the food that counts!

This place is located in between 3rd and 4th street on Vermont. The green El Patron, which isn't really a taco truck,  is more of a taco stand that is being towed by a truck. There's a picture of a patron bottle on the truck, but it is a taco truck.

What I love about this area is that there are 3-4 different taco trucks within a 5 minute walking distance from each other. Each of the taco trucks brings in its own qualities.

The weekday special is a pretty good deal 4 tacos and a drink ( just coke) for $5 dollars. The meat, although grilled differently than the other places, still is very tender, and the red onions are really good.

It may look a little shabby, but for late night, this place is pretty good.

Jung Ga Ne

$11.99 all you can eat korean BBQ is a pretty good deal for the south bay area.

Jung Ga Ne ( There is only a "Korean BBQ" sign in front of the store), is a decent place to try out for Korean BBQ. The store is located in a kind of shabby strip mall next to a Walgreens.

For the $11.99 option, there is only 2-3 options which include Pork Belly and Brisket. There is nothing special about the meat, just that there is plenty of it. The meal also comes with standard kimchi, dried fish, etc. There are more expensive choices, but the $11.99 is a pretty good bargain.

We went for lunch so there was not much of a crowd and plenty of parking (unlike in Korea Town). The servers are pretty nice, if they are not too busy.

If you are feeling in the mood for all you can eat korean BBQ that is not too expensive, and don't feel like driving to L.A. this is the place to go!
